Learning every day {Newborn}

Sunday, January 29th, 2012

One thing I love about photography is that there is always some unexpected, unplanned shot that can come about if you are patient enough. This image is one of the last I captured from Zoe’s session, and while it wasn’t what I was aiming for, I feel like it is quite beautiful.

As always, enjoy. Please feel free to share the link to my post but do not download, copy or crop.

The Yellow Ribbon Giveaway WINNERS! {Announcements}

Saturday, January 28th, 2012

Thank you all so much for your participation in the Yellow Ribbon Giveaway! Congratulations to all of the winners and a most special thank you to my sponsors, fellow wives Leora and Meredith (Shutter Buddies and Yellow Ribbon Baby, respectively) and Kate (Vozarts Studios)!

I ask that each winner contact me by noon PST on Monday before I will redraw for your prize. Please email feathersnphotos@gmail.com with your name and address; I will forward your information to the appropriate vendor. DO NOT CONTACT YOUR VENDOR DIRECTLY until you have claimed your prize with ASP and I have responded. Thanks again for supporting the servicemembers who protect our freedoms and the spouses who love them always.

Be sure to keep supporting these vendors with their awesome products and remember I offer a 25% discount to all active duty and veteran servicemembers and their dependents.

8 days new: Zoe {Newborn}

Thursday, January 26th, 2012

Sweet little Zoe has the privilege of being the VERY first newborn I’ve ever photographed.  Her mom Chante’ was so awesome while I clicked away at my shutter button.  I learned quite a bit and it was very interesting considering it was my first day back from a week of bed rest. I’ve posted a few to Facebook, so I’ll leave you with just one tonight: a sweet little yawn! Sleep tight folks, and remember to get your entries in for the giveaway as it closes at midnight PST on Friday.

More of JD {Preemie}

Thursday, January 26th, 2012

I am SO sorry to keep everyone waiting! I’ve been miserable and on bed rest since Friday night after my lumbar puncture and subsequent ER trip.  I made promises I just couldn’t keep, especially since my computer is a desktop!

I’m going to go ahead and do a quick upload to Facebook of the few pictures I edited of Joshua Daniel – you can view them here.  More photos will come, but probably not until a little later this weekend or early next week.  I’ve got a lot of catching up to do!  Don’t forget to Support Baby Keslar by donating via Paypal to rachelxkeslar@gmail.com. I know they need donations for gas and food. Due to some very generous donations from the businesses on the Facebook group they should be set for a month at the Ronald McDonald house

I was really loving black and white for editing that batch of photos!  However, this little idea came to me, and I’m curious to see your reaction.  Original B&W or photoshopped?  .

Model Wanted! {Announcements}

Sunday, January 22nd, 2012

I am seeking a newborn baby girl or twin girls under ten days old to model some beautiful new accessories and props I have ordered. If you or someone you know is expecting in the next two-three weeks, please send them my way!

Parents will receive a CD with at least five to ten images of their newborn and the option to order professional prints. Please email me if interested via the contact tab!

Hi JD! {Preemie}

Friday, January 20th, 2012

Baby Joshua Daniel, or JD for short, is such a tiny little miracle. This is all I can muster up tonight after a medical procedure I had done this afternoon. I wish we could convey his size to the world and how much he needs positive karma right now.  Follow his story as told by mom Rachel here, or support him on Facebook. Donations can be made to rachelxkeslar@gmail.com via Paypal.

More tomorrow, I swear!

Self-portrait

Tuesday, January 17th, 2012

It’s always fun to mess around with your camera. Mirrors are a fun way to take a self-portrait, and I think getting the camera in the shot speaks to how it shapes our images. I played around with a few particular images, but this one captures the quiet inner joy I get every time I heft my Canon into my palm.

Newborn bassinet prop

Monday, January 16th, 2012

I purchased a trio of these baskets for an upcoming newborn session.  I cannot wait to use these! I thought I’d just resell my medium and small sizes, but I think the smallest is a keeper for my yarn and crochet/knitting supplies.

Can’t you just imagine a little baby nestled into this? Precious!

Timeless {Portraits}

Sunday, January 15th, 2012

Another image from my practice studio shoot with Sarah. This one was taken with the Lensbaby.  I love how classic it looks.

I’ve been a little busy with our Support Baby Keslar campaign and the Yellow Ribbon Giveaway.  I hope everyone has time to support, share and enter the giveaway!

The Yellow Ribbon Giveaway

Saturday, January 14th, 2012

Update 1/28/11:

The giveaway is now closed! I’ll announce winners tomorrow sometime, stay tuned!

Let me just say I’m so blown away by the support ASP has gotten in the last few weeks. Wednesday morning we topped the magic number at 201 likes, and just this morning we hit 250!  As promised I have a sweet giveaway lined up for all the loyal and new fans. I have 3 awesome vendors giving away prizes to 3 different winners and one grand prize local winner will get a free photo session with me! How cool is that? Now, it’s time to get excited, and get your clicking finger ready to enter.  All of the prizes below are offered with military themed products or by military spouses.

Before you can enter, you MUST like Amanda Samford Photography on Facebook.

The fine print:

Winning entries will be chosen via random.org and verified before announcing.  You MUST include your contact email and name with each entry as that is how I will contact you/check the entries. Contest closes 1/27/12.  Winners will be announced the following weekend. Winners will be asked to email ASP once the winners have been posted.  You will receive all the details of your prize when the vendors contact you.    This giveaway is in no way sponsored, endorsed or administered by, or associated with Facebook.  By entering this giveaway you understand that you are providing your information to ASP and not to Facebook.  Prizes have no cash value and cannot be redeemed or exchanged. Please note that all comments are moderated for approval so it may take a moment for the comment to post.  Winners do not have to have military status or affiliation in order to win.

The Vendor Prizes

Vozarts Studios

Vozarts Studios is the original creator of the Yellow Ribbon Bird. Featured on custom painted plates, mugs, decals and more, these birds highlight support for the troops and the military family.  Kate had generously offered to giveaway one of her classic Yellow Ribbon Military Bird decals.  These can feature birds from any military branch.

Shutter Buddies

As a photographer the value of something to capture kids’ attention while you’re photographing is essential. Leora of Shutter Buddies has generously donated a Randy Raptor!  Randy Raptor features a squeaker inside for that extra oomph, which is so helpful when you have a kiddo that just won’t give you that smile you need. I have a caterpillar and a toucan in my camera bag! If you don’t win and you’re interested in purchasing one of these buddies, you can check out her Big Cartel shop here.

 Yellow Ribbon Baby

Yellow Ribbon Baby is a shop ran by another military spouse named Meredith.  Meredith started making bows for her little girl when she couldn’t find military themed bows or accessories online.  Her business quickly took off as she found a market and a high demand! Not all of her bows are military themed and she does take custom orders.  She had generously donated a $12 gift certificate to the winner, which includes custom orders.
